A little while ago on my facebook page I asked people if they only could listen to one band would it be ABBA or BEE GEES. To my surprise, ABBA got the majority vote. I really thought that BEE GEES would have taken it because they have such a wider scope of music. I think it just goes to show that majority of people look at the Gibb brothers as a disco band and nothing else. It's a shame for people to think that that.

I have always considered both of them disco. I would just rather listen to ABBA if I had the choice. It doesn't mean that I don't like the Bee Gees, I just prefer ABBA.

In a related story, which brand of Horse-drawn carriage do you prefer?

Abba sucks, the Bee Gees suck, and thank goodness they've all had time to wither up and blow away.

Also, Boney-M. They sucked and blew away too.

I don't want to burst any bubbles here, but....the 70's?

They're over.

"New York Mining Disaster" (or whatever the title is) is a fantastic song.

So what if the 70s are over? Somehow, a lot of my favourite music comes from that time period even though I missed hearing it when it was new. Let's say you hear a song you like. Then you go find out who did it, and get an album of theirs. You may then really get into them and try to find everything they ever did, and start tracing their roots, relatives, and influences. Next thing you know you have a collection of music that's old, unhip, sees little radio play, and appeals to few people that aren't you. So what? Just 'cause it's old doesn't mean it's broken. The cool thing about music and the passage of time is that as time passes there's just more music to consume, which might just lead you down some other path from the past that you haven't travelled before.

Travelling further down my own tangent.... I made the mistake of introducing Megs to the other day (I may never see the use of my home computer again) and holy crap did she find a ton of cool stuff that I never would have heard of otherwise.

Colin? When did you become so reasoned and logical?

Personally, I stand by my original statement. Abba, the Bee Gees, and Boney M all suck. Broken when they were new, not because they're old.

And to quote the Colin I once knew, "50 million Elvis fans CAN be wrong."

If you or Gil can come up with a decade that doesn't contain a lot of music that you like, I will personally eat a Britney Spears CD.*

*offer not valid in reality.

Damn, that's a shame, I'd really like to see that. Plus, I don't think I like very much that came out before 1968.....
